Presidents Speech
Mrs Hunter apologised for arriving late to the AGM but had an earlier meeting
and felt very strongly that she must be at the meeting as AFWS play a huge
part in the life of William Shrewsbury School.
Mrs Hunter commented that the newly elected team of officers that were in place
last year, after many years of being run by an established team, had not only
maintained a very high standard but had exceeded all expectations in terms
of supporting and working together as well as reaching one of the highest fundraising
totals in the history of AFWS.
Mrs Hunter told the committee that Staffs Council is one of the worst funded
councils for schools in the country and therefore the contribution that AFWS
make to the school goes part way to bridging that gap and allows William Shrewsbury
to purchase items of real luxury to enhance the teaching and learning that
takes place. These include items such as interactive white boards, contributions
towards educational visits and trips as well as Christmas gifts for every child,
outdoor play equipment, the Artist in residence and soon to arrive £2500
of new Literacy and Maths equipment.
On behalf of all the children and staff at William Shrewsbury, Mrs Hunter finished
by thanking AFWS for all their dedication, enthusiasm and great fundraising
efforts with the disco’s, gala and bazaar every year, and greatly appreciates
that this is a huge commitment by such a small team of people.
Any Other Business
Disco Friday 12th October
To be discussed at next meeting.
Mrs Elson passed on a request from Mrs Aitkin (Senior Lunchtime Supervisor)
for money towards new storage for lunchtime play equipment.
It was decided that this would be discussed further once an amount had been
worked out.
Mrs K Bentley mentioned the update of the AFWS page on the school website. Mrs Brabbin had already spoken to Yasar about this.
Mrs Hunter had bought with her a request from Mrs Childs about the cleaning of the kitchen bins and whether AFWS were still willing to pay for this. The committee agreed as this costs very little and makes the waiting area outside the junior gate a more pleasant place to stand and wait for children.
Mrs Brabbin had been given a request from Mrs Crowden (year 6 teacher) for a contribution towards a theatre trip in October for all of year 6. The committee agreed to contribute £300.
Mrs Bell wanted to say that the children had reacted very well to not having the bouncy castle at the end of term, due to the building work. The children had remembered who paid for this looked forward to receiving this treat again.
Mr Beene talked about ways to increase the number of people that help AFWS and how to widen our contacts. This discussion will continue at the next meeting.
Date and Time of next meeting
