The Governing Body
The Governing Body is made up of the Headteacher, two Teacher Governors, one
Staff Governor, six Parent Governors, four LEA Governors and four Community
Governors.
The Governors make decisions about how the school is run. They are appointed
to help decide what is taught, set behavioural standards, interview and select
staff, decide how the school budget is spent and how the premises should be
maintained. The Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities. The
minutes of the Governing Body meetings are displayed opposite the school office.
Governor Statement of Aims
We want our curriculum to:
• meet the needs of and abilities of all pupils and enable them to reach
their full potential, now and in the future;
• develop interests and talents
• enable every pupil to develop academically, socially, morally, emotionally,
spiritually, physically and aesthetically;
• be exciting challenging and encourage a lifelong love of learning;
• forge positive links between home, school and the community at large
so that shared values are promoted;
• foster values of self-esteem, self-confidence, respect for others and
their property, integrity and honesty;
• fully prepare children for the next stage of their education.
We endeavour to put these aims into practice through our teaching programmes,
which are designed with the needs of all children in mind, including those
with special needs.
When do the Governor’s meet?
The Full Governing Body meets at least once every half term. Each Governor
is also a member of at least one of the following sub-committee’s:
• Personnel Committee
• Finance Committee
• Premises Committee
PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
The personnel committee is responsible for staff issues at school. They set
the school’s staffing levels and review their structure. They are involved
with staffing policies, which includes the procedures for the selection and
appointment of staff, equal opportunities and staff professional development.
The school’s staff development and N.Q.T. support is monitored by the
committee and they take an active part in staff recruitment.
FINANCE COMMITTTEE
In order to ensure good financial management, the headteacher, together with the finance committee, set and monitor the school budget each year. They regularly review and make sure there are adequate policies and procedures in place to safeguard the school’s assets. They also ensure spending policies show value for money, and that funds are used to benefit all of the children to fulfil the school’s aims of raising standards.
PREMISES COMMITTEE
The premises committee oversee all matters that relate to the school buildings
and environment. The committee is allocated an amount of money from the school
budget to ensure that the premises are kept in a good, safe condition, and
that the environment for staff and children to work in is attractive and welcoming.
They have overseen many improvements to the school buildings and grounds. They
also ensure health and safety issues are addressed.
All the sub committee’s report back to the full governing body.
In addition to the sub committees, each governor is also a member of one of
the following committees that meet at least once every term:
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
The curriculum committee takes an active part in reviewing and developing all
the curriculum and assessment policies within the school. The relevant subject
leaders work with the governors to monitor and reviewing the schools curriculum
provision, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is achieved.
GOVERNORS IMPROVEMENT GROUP
This group consider different ways to ensure that everyone in the school community
(staff, parents, governors and pupils) is kept well informed about school issues,
such as updating the school prospectus and the web site. This group liase with
the other governor committees to make sure that all governors are aware of
current issues.
The chair’s of the personnel, finance and premises committees are also
members of the pay committee.
PAY COMMITTEE
The pay committee reviews the whole school pay policy on an annual basis and
then makes recommendations to the governing body regarding staff pay. They
also review the performance of the head teacher against delivery of set targets.
