Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 consists of two departments.
The Lower Junior department has three Year 3 classes and three Year 4 classes. All pupils follow the National Curriculum and are taught in mixed ability groups using a cross-curricular approach where appropriate. However for English and Mathematics the children are grouped according to ability and work with a great deal of focused teacher input.
The Upper Junior department has three Year 5 classes and three Year 6 classes. Again the pupils follow the National Curriculum through a structured programme. The children are taught in groups of similar ability for Mathematics. In addition, extensive cross-curricular activities are introduced to strengthen individual and group study skills. Children are also given the opportunity to widen their experience through field trips, camping and educational visits. Year 6 staff work closely with the staff of de Ferrers Specialist Technology College to make the transition to Key Stage 3 as smooth as possible.
