National Memorial Arboretum visit
Year 4 Visit to the National Memorial Arboretum on 5th December
We had a guided tour around the World War One exhibits and memorials. One of the most interesting things to see was the Christmas Truce handshake statue, which signifies the extraordinary day when the British and German troops enjoyed a game of football. On our walk, the children saw messages written on poppies from families who had lost soldiers. In our classroom session, the children asked great questions and learned about the types of jobs in the war. They created their own armband for the job and created posters, which they presented to the class at the end of the learning session. The children also had the opportunity to try on some typical war clothing and even be carried on a wooden stretcher! It was a great experience and the children were a credit to our school.
