Year 1 and 3 Collaboration - The Green Ship
Over the course of the last two weeks, Year 1 and Year 3 children at William Shrewsbury Primary School have been having lots of fun!
As part of a writing project to enhance key skills in the curriculum, the children have been collaborating and working together on a key text called The Green Ship.
Children paired up with a partner in the opposite year group. With their partner, children designed ships, junk modelled their designs, made and located Geo Rocks, made cakes and sandwiches to share an afternoon tea (thanks to Asda for their donations). The children loved using music to help paint different skies.
Children also spent lots of time outside using natural resources to enhance their learning. They took part in orienteering, identifying trees and team building activities. The Year 3 children helped Year 1 to learn Makaton, they travelled through the jungle using musical instruments and they thought very carefully about how the characters behaved. Year 3 have been great peer mentors!
All the children have really enjoyed their learning over these weeks and have especially enjoyed dressing up an an explorer on the last day. The parents were very impressed when they visited The Green Ship Exhibition in the New Hall.
Well done to all the children in Year 1 and Year 3 for engaging in their learning so very well - we are very proud of you all!
