English - Click below to access a PDF version of How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers.

Writing 1: This week the children will be working hard to retell the story of How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers. Using this YouTube version of the story or the PDF version of the book we would love for the children of Year 1 to retell the story in their own words. Including what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. We hope the children can draw on their knowledge of key vocabulary explored so far in the story and can wow us with their use of adjective and conjunctions. Before writing, you might find it useful to use the comic strip template attached below to retell the key points of the story before writing sentences.

Mathematics - Subtraction (White Rose)

White Rose Lessons (Web Link

This week the children are learning build on their understanding of subtraction by completing missing number problems and finding the difference. Please follow the White Rose online learning portal to access instructional videos and worksheets. Alternatively, tasks can be completed with plain paper or a whiteboard and pen.

Please explore the videos in our home learning archive for teacher taught videos for each target sound. Alternatively you may choose to explore Letters and Sounds videos from the Department of Education (DfE)

Topic - Celebration of Hanukkah / Privacy / Seasonal Change Autumn to Winter

  • This week in Religious Education we are learning all about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We will be exploring how the festival is celebrated. Can you research the festival and draw a picture for each question on your activity sheet?
  • In RSHE we will be exploring what is means to have privacy. This is a really important topic for our children as we learn about body parts which are private. We will be learning the name of important private body parts and designing a fancy new swimsuit to cover them! Can you explain to an adult which body parts a private?
  • In Science, we will be observing seasonal change and exploring how the world around us changes in Winter. What do you know about the Winter? What happens to the weather around Christmas time? Can you draw a picture of a Winter landscape?
