Information of Home Learning Activities for Year 2. 16/11/20

Each day: Please listen to our text called 'The Bear and the Piano' by David Litchfield. We will be enjoying this text throughout this half term so it will be important for your child to be very familiar with this text.The Bear and the Piano link

Monday- WALT add -ed to words.  (Link) Follow the link to watch the clips all about using the suffix -ed. There are 3 activities to complete underneath. 

Tuesday- WALT understand the past and present tense - Please see powerpoint and matching activities below about writing in the past and present tense.

Past and Present tense video - this video might help to explain the past and present. 

Wednesday- WALT write in the present tense. Please see word document below named 'Wednesday letter writing'. Follow the information to write a letter from Bear to his Bear Friends. You may wish to listen to the story again from the youtube link above. 

Thursday- WALT use words ending in the suffix -ing. Please see word document below named 'Thursday letter writing'. Follow the information to write a letter from the Bear friends to Bear. You may wish to listen to the story again from the youtube link above. 

Friday- WALT write a book review. 

Can you write a book review for 'The Bear and the Piano? What was your favourite part of the story? Tell us what happens in the story too. Who would you recommend this story too? How many stars out of 5 would you give it. You could always draw a picture to show your favourite part too. 

Please continue to look at and learn your sounds and words which were sent home before half term. There are also sound mats and common exception word mats saved in the tab ' Supporting your child's learning' which can be found on the left hand side of our year 2 page.

In Maths this week we will be starting Subtraction.

Monday- WALT subtract a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number.

Use the video to help you answer the following calculations: 17 - 6 =, 24 - 3 =, 56 - 4 = etc. Try to complete 6/7 calculations. 

Can you check if these calculations are correct?-

16 - 3 = 12, 36 - 4 = 32, 59 - 9 = 51

Tuesday-  WALT subtract a multiple of ten from a 2 digit number 

Use the video to help you answer the following calculations: 17 - 10 =, 29 - 20 =, 51 - 30 = etc. Try to complete 6/7 calculations. 

Can you check if these calculations are correct?-

27 - 10 = 17, 98 - 30 = 58,  72 - 40= 42

Wednesday- WALT subtract a 2 digit number from a 2 digit number. 

Have a go at some of the calculations at the end of the video. 

Thursday- WALT solve subtraction word problems. Please find some word problems in the attachments below. Try to solve these problems by using our strategy from this week. 

Friday- WALT create subtraction word problems.  Can you write some of your own word problems to solve at home? They can be about anything! E.g There were 65 people in town, 24 people left. How many are still in town?

 

Topic- This week we are continuing our learning all about New York!

In Science we are learning all about Materials. 

Can you find materials with certain properties? For example: soft, smooth, flexible, waterproof, transparent and rough. 

 

PSHE- All about Anti-Bullying. 

Can you make a poster to help children in the playground? What advice can you give your friends? E.g tell an adult, look after your friends, follow our Golden Rules.
