SUMMER PRODUCTION 2017
The Summer production for Year 5 & 6 this year will be 'Waiter! Waiter!' - a musical in two acts written by Mrs Godfrey and Mrs Hawthorn.
Performances will take place on:
Monday July 10th at 2.00pm
Tuesday July 11th at 7.00pm
Wednesday July 12th at 7.00pm
Thursday July 13th at 7.00pm
Tickets @£5 each will be available from the school office in June.
'Waiter! Waiter!' is set in 1965 and tells the story of two rival restaurants and a hapless waiter who takes a job in both of them in order to pay off his debts. There are about 30 main parts plus a chorus including the fire brigade, the WI, groovy kids and party goers. Over100 children are taking part and our main rehearsals will be every Tuesday evening beginning after Easter.
Congratulations to all our pupils for the fantastic performances they gave over the Christmas period. Our Nursery children sang carols; our Reception classes presented a 'Wiggly nativity'; Years 1 & 2 joined for a Christmas Concert; Years 3 & 4 performed the premier of 'The Bethlehem Herald' by Mrs Godfrey and Mrs Hawthorn whilst Years 5 & 6 performed their Carol Service at Saint Mary's Church. A big thank you to all the staff who helped put together these fantastic events. Thank you also to parents who support the children in everything they do.
PLATINUM ARTS AWARD
To celebrate this wonderful award, the 2016 Spring Concert took place at the Brewhouse Theatre on Tuesday March 22nd. There were two performances at 2.00pm and at 7.00pm and the long day began with a rehearsal at 9.45am. Two coaches took over 80 children down to the theatre. We thank BADAC (Burton and District Arts Council) for their generous donation which allowed us to pay for this transport.
The concert featured the many aspects of the arts that the children of William Shrewsbury School experience throughout the year, including dance, readings, singing and instrumental items. There were solo and group performances plus items by the Acorn Singers, Acorn Band, Recorder Group, our new Djembe Drummers and our gold medal winning gymnastics teams. The day was a great challenge for those children taking part, but a wonderful experience too. We hope those who attended enjoyed themselves and we thank all parents for their continuing support.
The Year 5 and 6 Summer Production in July 2016 was 'Daisy's Knights' - a two act musical set in the far away kingdom of Perrenia in days of old when knights were bold (but girls had plenty of hair!). It was another musical written by Mrs Godfrey & Mrs Hawthorn. Almost 120 children took part with 24 main parts, cast from our Year 6 pupils, plus choruses of: Nobles, Servants, Trees, Sea Creatures, Mountain Folk and Swampies.
Rehearsals took place on Tuesdays after school .
